Planning (outline)

Brief plan

Person writes in the book, something along the lines of 40 days to live. To start off ( close up of person’s wrist? ).
Person finishes writing, closes book and then flicks through to see in the corner (40 days to live,40 days to live,40 days to live ,39 days to live,39 days to live,39 days to live,38 days to live,38 days to live,38 days to live, etc.) The book is closed and then hidden somewhere.

Cuts to boy in attic
Searches around attic.
0orbi0000 section?
finds a book.
‘40’
written by: anonymous
Picks it up – it feels weird – unusual.
Opens it up
Starts to get a vision
It cuts to someone else or a CCTV camera – the person is having a seizure
could the book writing be in the vision? With touch speech over the top?
Having vision of newton’s cradle – Touch every time the cradle knocks, a voice counts. 1-40.

When the person comes out of the vision, ‘40’ is on their hand,
[ZOOMS IN ON  THE ’40’ ON HIS HAND AND IT TURNS INTO THE TITLE SCREEN]
they try to wipe it off and cant.
Later on the boy tries to go to sleep, has another vision.
This one is a little different, he sees a building, he sees the back of the presumed writer, he wakes up.
When brushing his teeth he notices the ‘40’ has turned into ‘39’.

Demonstrate Target audience research (quantitative and qualitative)

The target audience for my crime thriller opening scene is predominately male and females aged between 18-30. Due to broad amount of sub-genres featured in thrillers the opening could appeal to a numerous amount of ages.
Thrillers appeal to both male and female it isn't gender biased. They also appeal to a a variety of social classes conventionally through the use of  relateble characters and themes throughout the clip.
The target audience would also be interested in modern life and technology. These conventions are very popular in crime thrillers which would encourage popularity.
A key element of crime thrillers is the use of suspense and tension.

Communicate audience feedback from initial ideas

I pitched my idea to my teacher and initially the feedback was very advisable. He told me to make sure that the opening scene made sense but at the same time create a sense of mysteriousness. I took on board what he said and changed a few elements of my piece such as the book being found, initially it was going to be found in a library but I changed the idea of this to an attic which fitted our storyline much better than the previous idea.

I also asked my peers for initial feedback and they told me to include more drama in the opening scene but try not to give too much away, with this being said I included the running scene to include drama but make the audience at the same time intrigue my audience to encourage their further interest.

Furthermore I received feedback to make the opening scene appropriate for my target audience. Therefore I researched the typical target audience for crime thrillers and included elements of my piece which would entertain appropriately.

story plan

Start with a hand writing “ 40 days, 40 days, 40 days”
Single candle flickering in the darkness with flashes to writing.
(if it snows do it at night – footprints)
(cuts foot with knife, use red paint to create footprints)
Metal thing back and forth – drawing circle.
Books page gets turned.
Guy walking quickly with book, another guy following, builds up to sprint they come to a corner, the first person turns the corner and runs to build a gap, the second runs and the chase began
Ends up in the loft, use torch to look for things, finds book.
Starting to go funny, falls to knees, knocks out, arm falls, 40 slowly appears on his arm.

Woman snaps book shut.

Count back from 40 ends on 0 when she shuts the book- man also dies and another guy gets 40 on his wrist.
